The Golden Eagles have suffered two defeats to start the season. After a 32-21 loss in the season opener, Southern Miss were beaten 31-30 in a thriller against Louisiana Tech in the previous game. Jack Abraham had a solid game. He had a completion rate of 75% as he finished with 24 of 32 passing for 264 yards, with three TDs and an interception. As a wide receiver, Tim Jones had 160 yards on eight receptions and two TDs.
According to the Associated Press, it was interim coach Scott Walden’s debut for the Golden Eagles. He replaced Jay Hopson of Sept. 7. Hopson was 28-23 in five seasons at Southern Miss. Capacity was limited to 25% at 36,000-seat M.M. Roberts Stadium. Six feet of social distancing was required and tailgating prohibited.
